Math and I

Math and I

I enlisted some assistance in crafting this entry. The most credible source I know. Recently I became intrigued by the idea of replacing the letter Y in all the days of the week with a lowercase “I”. I was originally to flip the perspective of Mondays. The original setting that I advocated this perspective was on a Monday “Mondai” in Tyler, Tx while facilitating a process group with my clients. As I heard the phrase, “Oh its another Monday” on repeat. I wanted to give something that would redirect this way of thinking. The week before I had given education on “I” statements and another discussion on accountability, which referenced the “I” statements. Both of the literary subtitles emphasized the idea of the creativity that is needed in solving problems and taking that full accountability is the only way to let that creativity shine.

Words from Catherine Hunter

Mathematically, the lowercase i is used as a variable meaning “imaginary”-as in imaginary numbers. Like most subjects, the spread of knowledge is limited to age-appropriate levels. Kindergarteners learn to count starting at 1, and whole numbers go up. Then, a couple of years later, fractions, decimals, and negatives. Each year there is a limit to what numbers and you can do. And each year, you learn you are not limited to the previous versions of yourself, or educationally speaking, limited to lesser knowledgeable. Imaginary numbers allow further creative thinking, both mathematically and general out of the box thinking skills. “you can’t ” turns to “what if” .
